Been A While, Eh?

Well, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything here, so I guess i should at least talk about what I’ve been up to. This summer has mostly been spent subbing and volunteering at a historical site nearby. As for the subbing part of it, I’m working on Amagami SS and Kaichou wa Maid-sama still, along with various other little projects here and there. I did go to animazement back in may as a club event. I got a couple more models, one of which has been finished (glorious Re-ZEL), and a various assortment of other little things. School starts back up next month, and the club has a new president (who is happily not me), so we’ll see if i have anything to talk about then.

As always, if anyone has anything they’d like me to discuss, just leave a comment asking.

Another month between posts? damn.

well, its been hard to write recently. between schoolwork, subbing, and free time activities, i just never feel like updating my blog anymore, since nobody reads it anyway. i suppose if people posted and asked me to write about stuff, i’d have a reason to, but other than that…well, writing about the same old shit gets sort of boring, honestly.

pointless subbing shit

well yeah, hidamari is wrapping up next week, which sadly ends the show i’ve had the most fun working on so far. otherwise, i’ll be continuing FMA:Brohood and probably doing one or two other shows, i’m not sure which yet. i’ll post up here when i find out

random announcement

it’s been like this since last sunday, but i might as well make it open news. I’m now eclipse’s editor for FMA:Brohood. so yeah, haven’t really been watching much lately, just newly airing stuff. editing work, schoolwork, and gaming are taking up a good bit of my time.

short list:

good shows:

sora no woto: because its an unusual post apocalyptic slice of life, with tons of mystery about the world. also, episode 7 was sex

Dance in the Vampire Bund: what should have been stale, loli and boring is actually fairly interesting, due to a mildly intriguing plot, and mina tepes being surprisingly likeable.

Hidamari Sketch Hoshimittsu: editing this is easily the highlight of my week. always HNNGGGG

Katanagatari: fun dialogue, interesting animation, and memorable characters. only problem is the one episode per month airing schedule

not sure shows:

BakaTest:started out good, has since become more and more standard fare. we’ll see.

Durarara: actually quite good, but it only reveals a bit about its plot and characters at a time, so its still hard to say how it’ll end up

Nodame Finale: it’s hard to say because i’m editing it, but i feel like its not QUITE as good as the last two seasons, but maybe only because it’s moving somewhat slowly. a good finale (har har) could easily make me revise my opinion entirely.

idiots and editing and hidamari sketch

so yeah, perhaps some of you follow nutbladder’s subs for hidamari sketch, and when you happily opened it up, you found gems such as…

‘your chopsticks are stopped DONGS’ or ‘Sae line needs translation’

the way such obvious errors came about makes an interesting and somewhat complex story, so i thought i’d post it here, as it gives insight into how fansubbing works as well.

it all began in the usual fashion. The translator finished the translation and by the time i got around to it for editing, he had signed off to sleep/do whatever. While this is inconvenient while editing, it’s not necessarily critical. there were several lines with issues, so i just made notes in the script and posted it online as usual. I was incredibly tired at this point, so i went to sleep for a few hours.

This is where the first issue happened. since i was gone, they used my notes and hashed out the correct translations while i was still asleep. the timer then applied the changes to the script and gave it a slightly different name, so that there were two edits online. A little after this, i woke up and the QCer showed up too.

Now we run into a second issue. the QCer worked on the corrected script, made a report with his changes, and posted them online for me to apply what i wanted. Nothing special here, except that i make a critical mistake. When i opened the file to apply, i accidentally opened the file that didn’t have the corrected script. When i QC, i usually just jump to the lines that need fixing and work on them. Since i didn’t look at the other lines, i didn’t notice that there were some incredibly obvious errors. I think uploaded with the changes, and we released. the rest is history.

so, if it was tl;dr, the summary of it is that i made a stupid mistake and the internet got to laugh a bit at it. I’ll probably change a few things up procedurally so that it doesn’t happen again.

Content Post

I’ve been pretty busy, so its been a while. i suppose i have a few things to cover.

First, i have indeed been watching a lot, but reviews take time, and time isn’t something i’ve had a lot of.  if i feel like it, i’ll make a post detailing the best shows of 2009 (that i watched, obviously) and explain why i care about them. i’ve also been busy working. now that Darker than Black is done, i’m working on Nodame Finale with BSS and Hidamari hoshii mittsu with Nutbladder, so please watch them! however, combined with the rather large load of schoolwork i have and the fact that they air on the same day, the only show i can guarantee i work on every episode is Hidamari (as i edit it).

i’ve also generally cut down the volume of new shows i’m watching, with sora no woto, durarara, and Baka to Test being the noteworthy ones. i try to watch more older shows now, such as Turn A gundam currently and all of Gundam X over winter break. so yeah, i’ve really watched too much to really talk about it all, but no worries.

indeed, some things have gone quite well recently. i took the club on a trip to a convention, despite my worries about its size and the members possibly getting bored. fortunately, it turns out they seem to have been misplaced. while the convention was tiny, and there wasn’t too much to do, it was a success regardless. i was enormously pleased at how different the club meeting felt after the trip, with the members chatting like friends instead of just sitting silently. i also managed to add to my collection of figurines and such, so i’m personally pretty satisfied.

anyway, enough rambling for now, since that was a horribly structured and written post. i’ll see if i get around to writing that year in review post sometime this week.

i lied again

ok, i really did try, but i’ve been somewhat swamped with work and such for the new semester, and i will try my best to get it up in a timely fashion.

as a preview, i plan to talk about the best/most interesting shows of 2009, perhaps some convention stuff, and i suppose thoughts on stuff for this new season.

new post tonight

i know i’ve been slow for a while, but i’ll try to get an actual content post up tonight if i can.

happy new year/decade

may it suit you better than the damn formatting on my blog. might post tomorrow on various things.

gundam models

so i finally built the nu gundam

heres the finished product, which took me 9 hours and 15 minutes to build. yes, i had to put each one of those decals on. it hurt.
